HIGHLIGHTS OF MQMS
PRACTICAL PARTICIPATION IN THE RELIEF ACTIVITIES IN THE UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA

During
the second and third day of the relief campaign organised by the
members of the MQM Overseas USA Unit visited the Howard Hospital
in Washington DC, Mount Vernon Hospital in Virginia and Kennedy
Shelter Facility in Fort Belvoir.
- The Members of the Unit
distributed food and sweet to the patients and staff of
all three hospitals as token of friendship and solidarity.
- The
Appeal of Mr Altaf Hussain, Founder and Leader of the
Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), was presented to all
three hospitals.
- The
members spend the whole day in relief activities and
helped patients in their emergency medical needs.
- All
the members were wearing MQM badges as well as black
ribbons on the arms to observe the Day of Mourning.
- A very warm welcome was given to
the MQM team wherever it visited. At the Howard General
Hospital Dr. Berry introduced the MQM team to the
patients and the administration.

- At
the Mount Vernon Hospital the Hospital Director Dr.
Kathryn Kinnik personally welcomed the MQM team at the
main entrance and introduced them to the staff. Dr.
Kathryn thanked the MQM workers in general and Mr Altaf
Hussain in particular for instructing his workers to
participate in the relief activities.
- MQM
team spent the entire afternoon at the Kennedy Shelter
facility at the Fort Belvoir Army Base helping patients
and victims. All the staff members and the patients were
extremely impressed and grateful to the MQM team.
- At
the end of the day a three member MQM delegation headed
by the Member Organizing Committee and assisted by In
charge of Washington DC Unit Tariq Hameed and
Coordination Secretary Matloob Zaidi visited the Virginia
State Congress Member Mr. Brian J. Moran at his election
office in Alexandria. The team was invited by Mr. Moran's
office to discuss the issues related to relief activities.
- MQM's Delegation presented Mr.
Moran with the letter of Appeal by Mr Altaf Hussain. MQM's
Head of the Delegation informed Mr. Moran that MQM is
against all sorts of terrorism and violence and it
believes in religious tolerance.
- Mr.
Moran assured the delegation that he and his team would
take all possible measures to narrow the gap between the
local and the immigrant Americans. He also assured the
delegation that he would personally visit the mosques in
his constituency to send a message to Muslim community
that they are not alone in this time of toughest test.
- Mr. Moran in his message to Mr
Altaf Hussain thanked him for his positive actions and
named him as a ray of hope for the third world leadership.
He requested the MQM team to work with his team in the
upcoming elections. He thanked MQM's volunteers for
performing relief activities in his constituency.
- Mr.
Peter Laufer of the Washington Dc's PBS (Public
Broadcasting TV Channel), and Mr. Chang Yul Lee, a
prominent reporter of the Korea Times interviewed the MQM
organizing committee member Mr Ibad Rehman on MQM's
relief activities in the Area.
- The
Chief Organizer MQM USA & Canada Mr. Muhammad Younus
and the Relief Committee Members from the MQM
International Secretariat in London, United Kingdom were
constantly monitoring the relief activities throughout
the day.

UNIT CONTINUED ITS RELIEF ACTIVITIES FOR THE THIRD DAY IN NEW
JERESEY, USA
New
Jersey 15 September 2001
The
MQM office bearers and workers in the United States of America
continued their assistance in the relief activities for the third
day. Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the MQM Deputy Convenor,
heading the MQM Delegation visited the central relief camp in New
Jersey, where he participated on behalf of the MQM in the
National Day of Prayer and the National Day of Remembrance.
The Delegation also lit candles to remember those who lost their
lives in the terrorist attack upon America.
The
MQM Delegation headed by Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui also visited
the New Jersey Mayors Office. Office representative
Mr Richardson, who praised the welfare and relief activities of
the MQM, welcomed them.
Moreover, the representative of the
Woodbridge Mayor, Mr Charles have contacted the MQM New Jersey
Unit, requesting for relief items such as hand gloves, water,
glasses, shoes, blankets, shirts etc. The volunteers of New
Jersey Unit assured the delivery of these items to the central
relief office in New Jersey.

OPERATIONS FOR THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA SUFFERING AS A RESULT OF THE
ATTACK ON AMERICA
On the appeal and instructions of Mr Altaf Hussain,
founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), the units
of the MQM in New York City and Washington mobilised its workers
and the community to join hands and work shoulder to shoulder
with the American people in their hours of unprecedented crisis
