SINISTER CONSPIRACIES TO STYMIE THE ADVANCE OF MQM
MQM wants to maintain peace in Karachi at all costs- Farooq Sattar

KARACHI: 20TH OCTOBER 2010

Deputy Convener of MQM Dr. Farooq Sattar has said that MQM wanted to maintain peace in Karachi at all costs. Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at Nine Zero, Dr. Sattar said, “MQM has been extending all possible co-operation in the past towards establishment of peace in Karachi and has been sacrificing for it. MQM will continue to do so in future as well.”

He said that there was a deep rooted conspiracy behind killings of innocent people on such a large scale and those who hatched the conspiracy have not only been identified but incontrovertible evidence has been collected against them. “It is now the duty of the people at the helm of affairs to take effective action against the perpetrators of the mayhem and provide justice to the people of Karachi.”

He said that five workers of MQM were killed in cold blood after being abducted and the violence and killing and the series of violent killings that started continued unabated. He said that a press conference was called a day before by-election in PS-94 and thereafter incidents of indiscriminate firing and killings started in various parts of Karachi. He said that it was now clear as to who threatened to take up arms and asked the people to stay indoors during by-election.

Referring to the Sher Shah Kabari Market carnage, he said that small traders and labourers who worked on daily wages were targeted. “The identity of the murderers is an open secret. They have been identified and there are eye witnesses.”

He said that a one sided target killing was continuing in the city. “MQM Founder and Leader Altaf Hussain has always been asking his workers to bear with patience and maintain peace in the city. We have been sacrificing a lot for maintaining peace in the city and this is evident from the fact that there was no reaction against the killing of five of our workers.”

“We have been informing President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani, Federal Interior Ministry and Provincial Home Ministry and now that the perpetrators of the gory incident of Sher Shah have been identified, we against appeal to them to give solace to the people of Karachi. It is the first and foremost duty of the government.”

In response to a question he said that we have been making known our reservation for quite some time now and everything was on record. “We have laid bare the facts in unequivocal terms. We hope that the government will take serious view of our reservations. MQM is a political party and we will discharge our responsibility amicably.”

In the end he said that Karachi was the lifeline of Pakistan and conspiracies are being hatched to stymie the progress of MQM.
