London – 10 October 2000
The MQM Coordination Committee
has strongly condemned the illegal arrest of Javed Shah Puri, the Sector
Incharge of MQM Liaquatabad. They have
termed this as the continuation of the State operation to crush the MQM.
Mr Javed Shah Puri was arrested
in the morning by the police and the paramilitary rangers. At present, he is being kept at an unknown
destination and is being brutally tortured to sign a pre-written confessional
statement. From the past experiences it
is strongly apprehended that his life is in danger. The Coordination Committee said that the Establishment, fearing
from the unity of the smaller nations, has intensified its atrocities upon the
MQM workers. They warned the
Establishment that the illegal raids, unlawful arrests, cordoning off
operations and other atrocious acts cannot deter the people of smaller nations
from their peaceful struggle for the attainment of their rights.
The Coordination Committee demanded that the inhuman
torture being inflicted upon Javed Shah Puri in custody must be stopped. They appealed to all the true democratic
political parties and the national and international human rights organisations
to take notice of the large-scale raids and arrests of MQM workers.
