IN CASE OF ANY EXTRAORDINARY STEPS IN THE NEAR FUTURE
MQM COORDINATION COMMITTEE TO HOLD MEETINGS,
EXCHANGE VIEWS AND INFORM THE PEOPLE OF
THE FACTS BEHIND SUCH STEPS – ALTAF HUSSAIN

London – 2nd November 2007

MQM Founder & Leader Mr Altaf Hussain has appealed to all the political and religious parties to put aside their personal interests, differences and get united to steer the country out of the current precarious situation. He appealed to the MQM office bearers to keep the public informed of the facts. He was addressing a meeting at the International Secretariat in London, attended by MQM Convenor Dr Imran Farooq, Members of Coordination Committee, Members of International Secretariat and Haq Parast elected representatives from Pakistan. Mr Hussain said that it is being reported in the national and international media that any extreme step can be taken in the current political situation of the country.  Furthermore, political analysts, political leaders and other intellectuals are also expressing similar views. Mr Hussain said that the MQM has always kept the public, in general and the MQM office bearers and workers in particular, well informed of the facts. He informed the Members of Coordination Committee in Pakistan and London that in case of any extraordinary situation in the near future, they should hold meetings, exchange views and inform the people of true facts behind such step. He said that the responsibility also lies with the political and religious parties of the country because, if God forbid, as a result of any damage to the country – will they consider themselves indifferent to their responsibility? And if the political and religious parties believe that they are aware of the facts then the present scenario including the insurgency in Swat, northern areas and Balochistan, demands of them to rise above the political and personal interests, unite on one platform and think if the daily suicide attacks are in the interest of the country? Such attacks are not only claiming lives of security personnel but also of innocent men, women and even children. Mr Hussain said that in the larger interest of the country all the political and religious parties should keep their difference aside and adopt a unified line of action involving the public so as to keep the country safe from suicide attacks. Our differences and arguments are valid only within the country. But God forbid if something happens to the country, what is there to argue about?

Mr Hussain appealed to the political and religious parties and the public to distinguish between friends and foes. He said, “Altaf Hussain has never kept the public in dark, has always revealed facts, however, this is not only his responsibility. “As a Pakistani and to my best capabilities I am trying to save the country. I remain optimistic that the people of the country will support me and the MQM in this testing time”. He said that if the political and religious parties are prepared to lead the struggle for the country then we are also ready to follow them. He said that our heart bleeds at the loss of innocent lives as a result of daily suicidal attacks–but what can we do alone? We need the support of other political and religious parties and the institutions of the country. He assured the family members of those who have lost their lives that the MQM shares their sorrow and grief and that we pray for the early and speedy recovery of the injured.
