Exclusive Interview of
Mr. Altaf Hussain
To News On SundayAltaf Hussain, the supreme leader
and founder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), speaks candidly to The News
on Sunday in an exclusive interview and maintains that only his party has
the liberal and progressive agenda to make Pakistan a truly democratic and
forward looking country as envisaged by its founder, Quadi-e-Azam Muhhamad
Ali Jinnah. The leader of Pakistan’s third largest political party shares that the
brutal military crackdown of 1992 on his party failed to crack the
resolve of his comrades and hardships only strengthened and projected
his party’s philosophy of ridding Pakistan from the enslavement of the
filthy rich and corrupt feudal lords - to bring about a genuine middle
class revolution. But he admits that his soul hit the rock bottom at
that time, mainly because he thought he was being victimised through a
ruthless misinformation and character-assassinating campaign across
Pakistan. ...More |

KARACHI:16 April 2009 Convener Coordination Committee of Muttahida
Qaumi Movement (MQM) and MNA
Dr. Farooq Sattar Thursday said his party opposed the “so-called”
Nizam-e-Adl Regulation in the larger interest of the country. Addressing a
press conference here, Dr. Sattar said MQM informed the nation about what he
called the serious consequences of implementation of Nizam-e-Adl. “We were
Muslims yesterday and we are Muslims today and are well-aware of the
teachings of our religion,” he asserted. Islamabad is only a few kilometers
from Buner and after Swat it is now the turn of Islamabad, he feared. He was
of the view that making agreement with the elements who perpetrated the
crime of public flogging of a young girl in Swat is tantamount to giving
permission to carry out illegal activities openly. “If these people call
themselves Muslims then all other Pakistanis should stop calling them so,”
he added. The MQM leader said by carrying out a suicide attack in Charsadda
the Taliban celebrated victory of their violence-ridden campaign which has
nothing to do with peace. “Their Shariah does not allow them laying down
arms and those who support this deal have actually betrayed their voters,”
Dr. Farooq Sattar maintained. MNA Haider Abbas Rizvi, on the occasion, said
Chaudhry Nisar has violated the Parliamentary traditions by issuing a
statement against MQM. He termed the statements against MQM Chief Altaf
Hussain as regrettable. Dr. Farroq Sattar said now we also reserve a right
to issue statements against Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif.

ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi
Movement on Tuesday rejected the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation (NAR) and termed the
regulation a conspiracy to sabotage sectarian harmony in the country.
Addressing an emergency meeting of Raabita Committee at Khursheed Begam
Memorial Hall here, MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain said implementation of the
Nizam-e-Adl Regulation in Swat will set a precedent for the extremist and
influential people in other parts of the country to impose their rule in
their respective areas. Altaf said that the MQM was not against
implementation of Shariah rather it opposed the Taliban Shariah in Malakand
division.
He said the extremist elements were actively engaged in sabotaging the peace
and law and order in Swat and its adjoining areas and challenged the writ of
the government.
He said the MQM abstained from voting in the National Assembly, as they
wanted detailed discussion on the matter in the House. “We have certain
questions in our mind regarding the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation and we want their
answers.”
Talking to media after the Raabita Committee meeting, Dr. Farooq Sattar said
