DR IMRAN FAROOQ APPEALS TO UN SECRETARY GENERAL TO IMPRESS UPON THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND ILLEGAL MILITARY GOVERNMENT TO PUT AN END TO THE APPALLING STATE MISBEHAVIOUR AGAINST THE INNOCENT CITIZENS OF SINDH PROVINCE, SOUTHERN PAKISTAN
London 26 May 2001
Dr Imran Farooq, the Convenor of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM),
has appealed to the UN Secretary General to immediately impress
upon the unconstitutional and illegal Military Government of
Pakistan to put an end to the appalling State misbehaviour
against the innocent citizens of Sindh Province, southern
Pakistan. In a formal letter to Mr Kofi Annan, the UN
Secretary General, Dr Imran Farooq brought his attention towards
the continued acts of atrocities and the violations of human
rights committed by the law enforcement agencies in Sindh,
southern province of Pakistan.
Citing the recent
tragic incident of the brutal extra-judicial murder of three
innocent citizens of the Sher Tribe from interior Sindh, Dr Imran
Farooq wrote, most recently, on 15 April 2001, a team of
police officials imported from Punjab, carried out one of the
most ruthless extra-judicial murder of three innocent citizens of
Pakistan, belonging to the Sher Tribe in the interior Sindh.
The personnel of Ubaro Police Station of District Ghotki arrested
the three innocent victims Sumar son of Kabeer age 28,
Sohrab son of Kadir Bukhsh age 40 and Ali Mohammad
age 28. They were thrown into the police mobile and taken
three kilometres away from the village, where they were brutally
tortured and ordered to run. When these innocent citizens
started to run, the imported Police personnel from Punjab opened
indiscriminate fire upon them from a distance of twenty to thirty
feet. The person responsible for this heinous crime is the
Station House Officer (SHO) of Ubaro Police Station Feroze Anjum,
acting under the instructions and supervision of the infamous
former Corps Commander Sindh Retd Major General Naseer Akhtar and
Additional SHO Azhar Kalachi of Ubaro. Three police
officers who came from District Rahim Yar Khan in Punjab to take
part in this murder are: SHO Akhtar Abbas of Sabzal, SHO Mohammad
Ayub of Machhka and SHO Rana Kaleem Ullah of Bhung.
Dr Imran
Farooq further stated that the most appalling fact is the
involvement of police officers from Punjab. The citizens of
the province of Sindh have been protesting over this ruthless
murder and have been demanding for the arrest and trial of the
police officials involved in this heinous crime. However,
the present Military Government has paid no attention to their
peaceful protests and appeals.
