SHAFIQ AHMED, ANOTHER YOUNG MOHAJIR AND MQM WORKER EXTRA-JUDICIALLY KILLED BY POLICE IN KARACHI

Another young Mohajir Shafiq Ahmed 28, son of Qutub Uddin extra-judicially killed in the custody of Police in Karachi.
According to details on 28 May 1999, the personnel of Garden Police raided the temporary residence of Shafiq Ahmed at Gulshan Complex in Karachi and arrested him. The raiding party arrived in five mobiles from various police stations. The raid was conducted under the supervision of DSP Azhar Lodhi and SHO Yousuf Tanoli. During the raid the Police ransacked entire house.
Since the time of his arrest Shafiq Ahmed was subjected to most brutal torture and on 29 May 1999, he was brought to Dhobi Ghat in Usmanabad, Karachi. Heavy and brutal torture was inflicted upon in the presence of the area residents under the supervision of SHO Yousuf Tanoli. Four policemen including SHO Yousuf Tanoli jumped over his stomach causing severe internal injuries resulting in his death. It is also reported that before his death he had vomited blood while being tortured by the policemen.
Shafiq Ahmed 28, son of Qutub Uddin, was a resident of House No. 1, near Azeem Plaza, Shoe Market, Badshah Road, Karachi. He was a worker of MQM Unit 32, Sector Lyari.
The extra-judicial killing of Shafiq Ahmed in police custody once again proves that the Government of Nawaz Sharif is continuing with its policy of physically eliminating the MQM leaders, workers, supporters and their family members in particular and the Mohajirs in general.
