JAMAT-E-ISLAMI AND ITS ALLIED JIHADI OUTFITS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ARMED ATTACK ON GULISTAN-E-JAUHAR POLICE STATION – MQM INTELLIGENCE WING

Karachi – 4 April 2004

Jamat-e-Islami and its allied jihadi outfits are responsible for the armed attack on Gulistan-e-Jauhar Police Station, which claimed the lives of one sub-inspector and four constables.  This was revealed in a report issued by MQM Intelligence Wing.

According to their findings, on Saturday, around 1 in the night, a top secret meeting was held at House No A-84 in Zohra Nagar in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, the residence of Syed Mohammad Taqi, area Nazim of Jamat-e-Islami.  Amongst those who attended the meeting included terrorists of the Thunder Squad of Jamat-e-Islami, armed members of its allied jihadi outfits and Mr Younus Barani, Member of Provincial Assembly of Sindh belonging to the Jamat-e-Islami.  It was decided in this meeting that to divert the attention of the government from the ongoing army operation in South Waziristan against Al-Qaeda, Taliban and other jihadi outfits; armed activities must be carried out in Karachi, the biggest city of the country.  With this in view tasks were assigned and to begin with it was decided to attack the Gulistan-e-Jauhar Police Station.

The meeting ended at around 2.30am.  Mr Younus Barani then left the place in a white land-cruiser for unknown destination, whereas the four other high-roof vehicles also left the premises without any passenger, which strengthens the notion that these passengers stayed behind.  At around 5am, an enormous attack was launched at Gulistan-e-Jauhar Police Station.  The timing of this attack was planned with a view to catch the police personnel off guard (influenced by sleep) – in military terminology such attack is referred as “dawn attack”.

The assailants heavily armed with lethal weapons entered the police station and told the sub-inspector and other personnel present to say their last prayers and then opened indiscriminate fire upon them.  One of the police personnel was offering his Fajr (dawn) prayers in the mosque (within the police station boundaries).  He immediately took position and fired back at the assailants.  During this exchange of fire, one of the assailants got severely injured.  Thereafter, resorting to heavy firing in air, the assailants picked their accomplice and fled the scene.  According to MQM Intelligence Wing, the strategic manner in which the police station was attacked demonstrates that professionally trained people carried it out.

It may be recalled that only five days ago, i.e. Wednesday 31 March 2004, armed terrorists of Jamat-e-Islami and other jihadi outfits attacked the same Police Station, ransacked the furniture, broke the glasses, set fire to the objects present in the police station and also opened fire on the police personnel.  They also tried to burn the vehicle outside the police station.  For the past few days it was being observed that Gulistan-e-Jauhar was becoming the center for jihadi outfits.  Several jihadi outfits along with Jamat-e-Islami have established their hideouts in this area.  On 28 March 2004, during the by-elections for local bodies, armed terrorists of Jamat-e-Islami attacked and burned the home of Haq Parast Councillor Hidayat Masih; fired upon Akmal Idress, an MQM worker, and seriously injured him; and kidnapped and tortured four other MQM workers.  The armed attack and the brutal murders of a sub-inspector and four other police personnel exposes the evil intentions and plan of terrorism of the jihadi outfits.

IMRAN FAROOQ CONDEMNS THE TERRORIST ATTACK
ON POLICE STATION IN KARACHI

London - 4 April 2004

MQM Convenor Dr Imran Farooq while strongly condemning the armed attack on Gulistan-e-Jauhar Police Station and the tragic loss of lives of five police personnel has termed this an open act of terrorism.  According to details, a so-called religious party, its jihadi outfits and Haqiqi terrorists are behind this act of terrorism.  Prior to this attack, around 1am, four or five vehicles arrived at the residence of a member of a so-called religious party in Zohra Nagar where they attended a meeting and only a few hours later armed terrorists attacked the police station.  Very recently, the terrorists of this so-called religious party attacked this police station to free a few of their arrested accomplices.  This incident was reported in all newspapers.  It may be recalled that an important member of Al-Qaeda was arrested from a house of a Jamat-e-Islami’s office bearer.

Dr Imran Farooq said that the so-called religious party and its jihadi outfits are trying to terrorise the citizens of Karachi in particular and of Sindh in general.  The people of Karachi and Sindh have not only rejected the religious extremists but will also defeat all the evil conspiracies of the so-called religious party and its jihadi outfits through their unity, determination and courage.

Dr Imran Farooq demanded of the President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali to order a high level and independent inquiry and punish the terrorists involved.  He also prayed for the police personnel who lost their lives and expressed his heartfelt condolences to their family members.
