Karachi – 23 March 2000
MQM Co-ordination Committee has strongly condemned the Risala Police for obtaining illegal remand of Mohammad Khalid, an MQM worker of Unit 35, Sector Buns Road, Karachi. Mohammad Khalid was arrested on 27 February 2000, during a peaceful demonstration of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz (JSQM). He was subjected to brutal torture while in custody and was later sent to the Karachi Prison. Despite the judicial custody, Mohammad Khalid was once again illegally remanded in the custody of Risala Police Station, where he is being once again subjected to most inhuman torture. It has become a common practice by the law enforcers that they have taken out several MQM workers from the prison and then extra-judicially murdered them through brutal torture. The Co-ordination Committee expressed their concern for the life of Mohammad Khalid and has appealed to the Chief Executive General Musharraf to take notice of the illegal remand of Mohammad Khalid and issue orders for his immediate release along with other innocent MQM workers and supporters detained on false and fabricated charges.
