MQM’S STRUGGLE IS NOT FOR AN INDIVIDUAL OR A FEW PERSON BUT IT IS TO ACHIEVE THE COLLECTIVE INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE – ALTAF HUSSAIN

Karachi – 4 June 2003
Mr Altaf Hussain, MQM Founder and Leader, has stated that MQM’s struggle is not for an individual or a few person but it is to achieve the collective interests of the people, therefore, it is the obligation of the ministers and parliamentarians to use all their energy and potential for the achievement of the collective interest of the people. He was addressing the MQM Coordination Committee, federal and provincial ministers and advisers, special coordinators, senators, members of national and provincial assemblies, and office bearers and members of various MQM departments at the Khursheed Begum Hall in Azizabad.

Mr Hussain said that Movements do not come into being for the interest of an individual or a few persons but they are born for the collective mission and interest.  Whereas different political parties run their politics according to political interests and programs and the reason behind their formation is not the collective interest of the people but their sole purpose is to get into power. He said that Muttahida Quami Movement is also a Movement and its struggle is not for an individual or a few persons or their families but it is struggling for the collective interest of all those oppressed people who have been kept deprived of their rights.  He said that nature has provided an opportunity to Muttahida that one of its member is the Governor of the province and we have representation in the provincial government as well, therefore, we should work for the common interest of the people. If we will join the race of individual interests instead of collective interests then we would be responsible of committing the crime of transforming our Movement into a political party.  Mr Hussain said that the position and rewards that we are reaping today is the result of the determination and sacrifices of martyrs; oppression faced by workers detained in prisons, missing persons and their family members. Therefore, we should analyse are we doing justice to our organisational or government positions? He said that we should always keep in view the cause and mission for which thousands of our workers have sacrificed and the nation suffered grievances.

Mr Hussain said that at the time he started the Movement only the deprived poor and middle class people supported him and sided with the Movement on every occasion even today.   He said that he could never forget the sacrifices of his nation, he respect them and would continue to represent them.  Addressing all the office bearers of the Movement and the parliamentarians Mr Hussain said that the nature has provided us an opportunity to serve the people, therefore, we should give attention to the collective problems faced by the people and to serve them. He said that those Movements whose office bearers respect the time become legendary and victorious. He stressed upon the ministers and members of assemblies to increase their contacts with the public, listen to their problems sympathetically and use all their efforts to solve them. He also reminded the ministers who joined the federal cabinet that they should use their potential and take revolutionary steps to solve the problems of the people.  He also advised the office bearers and members of various departments of the Movement to deal the public respectfully in a dignified manner and continue to honestly fulfil their organisational responsibilities.
