MQM “Party Election” will be held on Tuesday, 30th July 2002

According to the communiqué of the MQM’s Election Committee the party’s poll will be held on Tuesday, 30th July 2002. Polling will start at 10.00 a.m., and continue till 8.00 p.m., without break. In Karachi for polling there will be a polling station with 11 polling booths at Khursheed Begum Hall near the MQM Head Office known as Nine Zero. There will be 7 Information Counters for voters. In Multan city of Punjab province 2 polling stations have been set-up and one polling station each for Banu city of NWFP province and Quetta city of Balochistan province.  In Sindh province 3 polling stations set-up in each city of Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah and Sanghar for the central and local elections.  In Hyderabad city 6 polling stations have been set-up for the central election and 2 polling stations have been set-up in Sukkur city for this purpose.  Election Committee has nominated Mr. Iqbal Qadri Advocate as Presiding Officer for Karachi, Mr. Hanif Soorti for Punjab province, Mr. Abu Azhar Chand for NWFP and Mr. Abdul Sami for Balochistan province.  Similarly, the Election Committee has nominated Mr. Ghulam Dastagir for Mirpurkhas, Dr. Zakir Ali for Nawabshah and Mr. Zubair Ashraf for Sanghar as Presiding Officers. The Election Committee has announced Mr. Ajmal Naseeb as Presiding Officer for Central Coordination Committee’s election in Hyderabad city.  It is reminded that in Hyderabad Local Elections have already been completed last month.


MQM’S PARTY POLLS: ANNOUNCEMENT OF FINAL LIST FOR CANDIDATES AT LOCAL, PROVINCIAL AND FEDERAL LEVELS

Election Committee of the MQM (Muttahida Quami Movement) has announced final list of candidates at the local, provincial and federal levels after scrutiny of the nomination papers. According to the final list issued by the Election Committee 41 candidates filed nomination papers for the 25 members Central Coordination Committee. For the 5 Members provincial Committee of Balochistan final list of 11 candidates has been issued. Their names are; Arif Hameed Khan, Waqar Bengal Zai, Usman Doultani, Yousuf Shewani, Jehangir Khan, Mohammad Waseem, Abdul Jabbar, Abdul Ghafoor, Rahim Baloch, Abdur Rehman and Mohammad Nadeem. Similarly, for the 5 members Provincial Committee of NWFP final list of 7 candidates has been issued. Their names are: Mohammad Roshaan Khan, Aslam Shah Afridi, Mohammad Ali Khan, Halako Khan, Jehangir Khan, Mohammad Ashfaq Khan and Amanullah Khan. At local level for 8 members Karachi Organising Committee a final list of 16 candidates has been issued. Their names are: Kanwar Naveed Advocate, Ismail Qureshi, Liaquat Ali Qureshi, Mohammad Hussain, Adil Siddiqui, Syed Manzoor Hassan, Faisal Sabzwari, Abdul Sattar Ansari Advocate, Naeem Siddiqui, Usama Qadri, Iqbal Mohammad Ali Khan, Mohammad Abid, Masood Mehmood, Zahid Qureshi, Mrs Khursheed Afsar and Anwar Alam. For 6 members Zonal Committee of Mirpurkhas a final list of 11 candidates has been issued. Their names are: Fareed Ahmed, Arshad Hassan, Fareed Alam, Naveed Mughal, Shafiq Ahmed, Noor Mohammad Jadgal, Mohammad Zafar Mughal, Mohammad Ashraf Rajput, Syed Arif Soofi, Aftab Ahmed Khan and Mujeeb. For 6 members Zonal Committee of Nawabshah a final list of 11 candidates has been issued. Their names are: Riaz Ahmed, Shiraz Masood, Abdul Rauf, Naeem Akhter, Yaseen Zai, Laung Khan Channa, Imran Khan, Akbar Ali, Qazi Shakeel, Naveed Ahmed and Azam Qaimkhani. Similarly, for 5 members Zonal Committee of Sanghar a final list of 11 candidates has been issued. Their names include: Mohammad Umer Qureshi, Shakeel, Syed Mansoor Ali, Mohammad Shafiq, Khushi Mohammad Ghauri, Abdul Qayyum, Irfan Mansoori, Gulzar Ahmed, Syed Arshad Zafar Bukhari, Mohammad Mumtaz Qureshi and Mohammad Ishaque.


CANDIDATES FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY  FILES NOMINATION PAPERS FOR THE PARTY ELECTIONS IN MQM (MUTTAHIDA QUAMI MOVEMENT)

For the party elections at local, provincial and federal levels in the MQM (Muttahida Quami Movement) candidates from all over the country have filed nominations papers. In this connection the Election Committee appointed Returning Officers all over the country including Karachi. Elections would be held for the Central Coordination Committee at federal level.  Provincial committees for Punjab, Balochistan and NWFP at provincial levels and for Karachi Organising Committee and the Zonal Committees for Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah and Sanghar at local levels. For submission of nomination papers the Election Committee has opened offices at Karachi, Nawabshah, Sanghar and Mirpurkhas. In addition, offices have also been opened in Punjab, Balochistan and NWFP where Candidates filed their nomination papers to the Returning officers. List of candidates would be prepared today and after scrutiny of objections final list would be issued tomorrow on Sunday. Polling would be held on 30 July 2002. It was expressed that the elections were being conducted on proportionate basis.

According to the communiqué of the MQM Election Committee,  41 candidates filed nomination papers for the election of 25 membered Central Coordination Committee at federal level.  Similarly, for the provincial committees of Punjab 14 candidates for 5 seats, NWFP 7 candidates for 5 seats and for Balochistan 11 candidates for 5 seats filed nomination papers. At local level 16 candidates filed nomination papers for 8 members of the Karachi Organising Committee. Similarly, for the five members Zonal Committees of Mirpurkhas and Sanghar 11 candidates filed nomination papers for each committee. It was reminded that elections had already been held in Hyderabad.





ELECTIONS WILL BE HELD FOR THE CENTRAL COORDINATION COMMITTEE, KARACHI ORGANISING COMMITTEE, ZONAL COMMITTEES FOR INTERIOR SINDH AND PROVINCIAL COMMITTEES FOR PUNJAB, BALOCHISTAN AND NWFP

A joint session of the MQM central Coordination Committee members at the Central of the MQM at Nine Zero, Azizabad, Karachi and International Secretariat of the MQM at London was held. The meeting was convened by the Convenor of the MQM Central Coordination Committee Dr Imran Farooq via telephone from London. At Karachi five Deputy Convenors of the MQM Central Coordination Committee, other members and members of the MQM Election Committee attended the meeting. In the meeting the election schedule proposed by the MQM Election Committee was examined and was approved through consensus. In the meeting number of the office bearers and members were ascertained according to the Constitution of the party in the context of the party elections and for that nationwide party elections would be held. According to that the Central Coordination Committee would comprise of 25 members in whom there would be one Convenor, six Deputy Convenors and eighteen members. Karachi Organising Committee would comprise of eight members consisting of one in charge, one joint in charge, and six members. Zonal Committees of each Nawabshah, Sanghar and Mirpurkhas would comprise of five members consisting of one in charge, one joint in charge and three members. While Provincial Committees for Punjab, Balochistan and NWFP would comprise of five members consisting of one in charge, one joint in charge and three members for each committee. Under the supervision of Election Committee elections for party positions would be held according to the proposed schedule while party elections for Hyderabad Zone have already been completed last month.   


ELECTION COMMITTEE OF MUTTAHIDA QUAMI MOVEMENT HAS ANNOUNCED ELECTION SCHEDULE FOR PARTY ELECTIONS

Election Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement has announced schedule for the party elections at local, provincial and national level. An important meeting of the Election Committee that was constituted for the party elections was held yesterday at Nine Zero, Azizabad in which members of the said committee Mr Sardar Ahmed, Mr Hamid Uz Zafar and Dr Khanzada were present. In this meeting preparations for the party elections were thoroughly reviewed and the committee expressed its satisfaction. Election Committee announced stepwise schedule of the party elections. According to the schedule by 26 July 2002 enlistment of the voters list would be completed. On 27 July 2002, the candidates would file nomination papers. On the same day, initial list for the candidates would be published. On 28 July 2002, objections would be dealt and list of candidates would be finalised. On 30 July 2002, polling would be held for the candidates that will start 10 am and continue until 8 p.m. Results of the party elections will be announced on 1 August 2002. Party elections will be held under the supervision of MQM Election Committee. In this connection over 50 members staff have been assigned for the assistance of the Election Committee who would conduct the process of election according to the schedule throughout the country on secret balloting system. 


Muttahida forms three-member election committee

The Muttahida Quami Movement has decided to hold party election and constituted a three-member election committee for the purpose. The decision was taken at a meeting of Muttahida Coordination Committee held at nine zero and London. The convenor of the party Dr Imran Farooq chaired the meeting and all the five deputy convenors, members of the coordination committee and members of election cell attended the joint meeting. The three-member election committee comprised of Syed Sardar Ahmad, Dr Khanzada and Hameeduz Zafar. The committee would announce the election schedule expected to be held before August 5, the deadline fixed by the election commission of Pakistan.
