MQM STARTS INDEFINITE HUNGER STRIKE IN KARACHI

Today the MQM started its hunger strike in Karachi, Pakistan in front of the Karachi Press Club to protest against the brutalities and human rights violations against the Mohajir Nation. Thousands of MQM leaders, workers, supporters and their relatives have been extra-judicially killed, unlawfully detained, inhumanly tortured and thousands have been imprisoned on false and fabricated charges.
On the first day of strike, Senator Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, Deputy Convenor of MQM, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Parliamentary Leader of the MQM in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh and Member of MQM Co-ordination Committee, Mr. Hasan Musanna Alvi, Member of National Assembly of Pakistan, Mr. Wasim Akhtar, Member of Provincial Assembly of Sindh, two members of the MQM Elders Wing and two members of the MQM Ladies Wing are observing the hunger strike which will continue till tomorrow. The hunger strikes shall continue for an indefinite period.
At the hunger strike camp other parliamentarians belonging to the MQM were present along with the Members of MQM Co-ordination Committee, Elders Wing, Ladies Wing, Labour Division, Medical Aid Committee, Legal Aid Committee and a large number of MQM workers and supporters.
It is to be noted that MQM has already started its
world-wide campaign of hunger strikes in USA, UK, South Africa,
Canada, Germany, Belgium and other countries since 20 July 1999.
Today, Mr. Haroon Siddiqui, Member of Provincial Assembly of
Sindh and Mr. Haji Jalal Khan, Former Councillor belonging to the
MQM are observing token hunger strike opposite 10 Downing Street
in London, the official residence of British Prime Minister Tony
Blair.
