ARRESTS OF MQM WORKERS
Abdul Rauf Moghul, S/O Abdul Shakoor Moghul, age 35, married and a resident of Sector 7/F, Al-Muslimabad, DMC West, Qasbah Aligarh Colony, Karachi
Personnel of the Orangi Town Police Station of Karachi headed by its Sub-Inspector Aslam Rathore raided the house of the above named MQM worker of Unit 130, Aligarh Qasbah Colony Sector between 4.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. on 13th. January 2001. During the raid, the police team and its head pulled Abdul Rauf Moghul by his hair and spontaneously started inflicting brutal torture by punching his face and body, kicking by boots and buts of the guns. The raiding police personnel mercilessly beat up the members of the household and molested women. The police systematically looted and plundered the house stealing cash, jewellery and other valuable items.

Sub-Inspector Aslam Rathore of
Orangi Police Station, Karachi having arrested Abdul Rauf Moghul and inflicting
brutal torture in custody of the State for several hours, forced him to take
the police to the house of another MQM worker Hamid of Unit 130. According to
the eyewitness accounts, in the morning of 14th. January 2001,
Sub-Inspector Aslam Rathore and other personnel of Orangi Town Police Station
sieged the house of Hamid with armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and police
mobiles. The raiding police team broke into the house of Hamid and immediately
started beating the members of the household including beating and molesting
women. In the absence of Hamid, the police arrested his nephew Rafique, an MQM
supporter. The police, as usual, looted the house stealing cash, jewellery and
other valuable items. Sub-Inspector Aslam Rathore told the household members to
produce Hamid and exchange Hamid with Rafique. We have just learned that the
police is trying a fabricate a case against Abdul Rauf Moghul, however, they
have not just yet come up with any specific allegations.
5 January 2001:
1- The personnel of police from Pak Colony in Karachi arrested Mobeen 28, son of Hussain Bakhsh, resident of Qasba Aligarh Colony. He is a worker of MQM Unit 125, Sector Qasba Aligarh. Arrested along with him were MQM workers Tahir, Guddu and Imran. They were immediately subjected to brutal torture.
2- In the early hours, the personnel of police raided the residence of a detained MQM worker Habib in Ranchore Line Area and arrested his brother Mehboob.
4 January 2001:
1- The personnel of Mominabad Police Station arrested Shahid son of Waheed from near his house near Irani Camp, while he was having a chat with his friends. The raiding party was led by ASI Police Zahoor. It is to be noted that Shahid was earlier arrested on false and fabricated charges and a few days ago released.
2- The personnel of Mominabad Police Station led by SHO Fasih raided the residence of Unit Incharge Sheikh Farooq and the house of Khalid, Member Sector Committee of Ranchore Lines. In their absence they ransacked the house and threatened the family members.
3- At around 2 a.m., the personnel of CIA Police Malir raided the residence of Anwar Ali son of Tayyab Ali in P&T Colony in Defence and arrested him.
2 January 2001: The personnel of Mominabad Police Station led by ASI Zahur, Altaf and SHO Fasih are raided the houses of MQM workers and supporters. They have arrested Mohammad Shahid son of Sheikh Waheed Ul Haq.
30 December 2000: The personnel of CIA Police have arrested the husband of an MQM worker Ms Qamar Iqbal from her residence. They are not disclosing his whereabouts.
29 December 2000: The personnel of Mominabad Police Station led by SHO Hameed have arrested Nadeem, brother of MQM worker of Unit 120. The police are demanding to produce the brother for the release of Nadeem. Moreover the same raiding party also arrested two MQM workers Irshad and Faisal of Unit 120.
27 December 2000: The personnel of Jauhar More Police Station arrested Kashif, a worker of APMSO from his area.
22 December 2000: The personnel of Nabi Bukhsh Police are harassing the area residents of Units 29, 31, 32 and 33, particularly the family members of MQM workers and supporters. They have unlawfully arrested Imran, a worker of MQM Unit 29.
18 December 2000: ASI Police Kamran Ghauri has arrested Shahid Nisar son of Mohammad Nisar from his residence. It is learnt that he is being tortured to sign a pre-written confessional statement.
12 December 2000: The personnel of Super Market Police Station, led by SI Rao Akhtar and ASI Sajjad Hyder arrested Waseem Ahmed Sheikh from Liaquatabad, while he was collecting donation for KKF (Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation). Waseem Ahmed Sheikh 33, son of Hanif Ahmed Sheikh is an office bearer of MQM Unit 166, Liaquatabad Sector, Karachi. He is being detained at Super Market police Station.

5 December 2000: At around 5.00 p.m., the personnel of Super Market Police Station, led by ASI Sajjad Hyder arrested Ashraf 23, son of Mohammad Ilyas, Joint In-charge of MQM Unit 166, Liaquatabad Sector, Karachi. He is being detained at unknown destination.

1. The personnel of Sarjani Town Police Station raided the house of Ahmed Ali and arrested him. Ahmed Ali 27, son of Ghulam Rabbani is the In-charge of MQM Unit 10, New Karachi Sector, Karachi. He is being subjected to brutal torture.
2. The personnel of Orangi Town Police Station raided the house of Qamar Islam. In his absence they ransacked the hose and arrested his two brothers. Qamar Islam son of Abdul Salam is a worker of MQM Unit 131, Orangi Town Sector, Karachi. Those arrested are: Badar Islam 32, son of Abdul Salam and Rifat Islam 29, son of Abdul Salam
