MQM stages demo in NY
The News International -- January 13, 1999
NEW YORK: Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Overseas Units of
the United States and Canada jointly staged a protest
demonstration in front of the United Nations building, condemning
the Nawaz government for its 'continued atrocities against the
Mohajir community'. A large number of Pakistanis, representing all
communities, gathered in front of the United Nations building in
freezing temperature and snowfall. The demo continued for more
than five hours. The protesters raised slogans against 'state-sponsored'
acts of terrorism directed to eliminate the Mohajirs. The
demonstrators, who were carrying party flags and banners,
demanded immediate recognition of massive democratic mandate
given to the MQM by the people in the elections. The MQM office-bearers
also distributed a large number of pamphlets among the
pedestrians.
