By Staff Reporter
KARACHI, Jan. 22. MPA Sindh Assembly and leader of Muttaheda Qaumi Movement, Mr. Afzal Anwar, was arrested early this morning by Gulbahar police on the charge of murder of a PPP leader Naeem Hasni last year.
Heavy contingents of police, headed by SHO Gulbahar raided the house in Nazimabad No. 1 area. First they harassed all the inmates of the house and the SHO, Chaudhry Aslam Khan used abusive language infront of the women and children.
The SHO then grabbed the MPA by his hair, started beating him before his family members and asked him to handover the weapons. On which the MPA said that he had only one licensed rifle which is already in the custody of Gulbahar police.
On this reply the SHO again got enraged and started beating him again. Finally he threw him in the police mobile and took him to the police station.
The car and mobile phone of the MPA was also taken by police party. During the raid the house was ransacked. The police later formally arrested him in the murder case of Naeem Hasni.
Area residents told Daily News that recently a tussle began between SHO Gulbahar and the MPA in the case of a child's kidnapping in which the mother of the child came to the rescue of MPA Afzal by saying that he was there to save her son whereas the SHO was trying to involve him in the case.
Before leaving the SHO and publicly threatened the MPA that this time he had been saved due to intervention of the child's mother but he would not spare him.
It may be recalled that SHO Ch. Aslam is the same police office who was publicly ordered to be dismissed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif when he came to perform the opening ceremony of a blood bank at Khidmat-e-Khalaq Foundation last year.
