Supreme Court extends stay till February 1, 1999, on the petition filed by the MQM against the establishment of the Summary Military Courts in Sindh

The Supreme Court on Monday further restrained the government
(in continuation to its decision on Friday) not to execute any
convict of military trial courts in Karachi till February 1, 1999,
on the MQM's Petition, seeking interim stay of MTCs' execution.
The seven-member bench consisted of Chief Justice Ajmal Mian,
Justice Saiduzzaman Siddiqui, Justice Irshad Hasan Khan, Justice
Raja Afrasiab Khan, Justice Mohammad Bashir Jehangiri, Justice
Nasir Aslam Zahid and Justice Munawar Ahmed Mirza.
Dr. Abdul Basit, counsel of the MQM, argued for the grant of restraint order on the execution of military courts' convicts.
