The founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr. Altaf Hussain said that Nawaz Sharif by demanding the restoration of Justice (Rtd) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other deposed Judges is clearly defying the charter of democracy which was signed between him and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in front of the nation. He said that by open defying of the charter he (Nawaz Sharif) is causing pain to the soul of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, so Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari should publicly tear of this charter and burn it and if they still want to implement it then Nawaz Sharif should beg an apology from nation and shaheed Benazir Bhutto for breaking the charter.
Altaf Hussain said that Nawaz Sharif had signed charter of democracy on May 14, 2006 in which it was pledged that no Judge will be appointed or allowed in the court who had taken oath under the PCO. At the time of this signature ceremony Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was the Chief Justice of Supreme Court who became Judge after taking the oath under PCO. Now Nawaz Sharif is turning back from his signed agreement by making a demand for the restoration of Justice (Rtd) Iftikhar Chaudhry and other deposed Judges who all took oath under the PCO which is clear cut contravention of the said charter.
Mr. Hussain once again assured to unconditional support all positive steps of the new government. He further said that all steps by MQM will be taken for the love, unity, peace, development of Sindh and for the prosperity of Pakistan. These statements he made on Friday while telephonically addressing the MQM’s women workers at Pucca Qilla Hyderabad. In his address all office bearers, workers of the MQM women wing and thousands of ladies supporters of the MQM participated.
In this address Mr. Altaf
Hussain disclosed that Nawaz Sharif says that he does not accept the Judges who
took oath on
November 03, 2007 and will restore all Judges including Justice (Rtd) Iftikhar
Chaudhry. Mr. Hussain said that Nawaz Sharif is lying to the nation and a leader
who claim to be national stature leader should not tell lie. He said that Nawaz
Sharif on May 14, 2006 signed charter of democracy with daughter of Sindh
Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in which there was no place of the Judges, who took oath
under PCO. Now Nawaz Sharif time and again demanding the restoration of deposed
judges who all are PCO Judges. This is a clear and open violation of the charter
and infact Nawaz Sharif by breaking the charter is causing pain to the soul of
Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. Mr. Hussain further said that I do not tell lie or
accuse any one I only talk with hard proof. I urged Mr. Zardari that he should
ask Nawaz Sharif that why by demanding the restoration of deposed Justice
Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other Judges he is violating the charter of
democracy which he signed with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto? Mr. Hussain while
explaining the points of the charter of democracy signed by Nawaz Sharif and
Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, pointed out that under section (A) of the charter Para 3
sub section (a) said that
The recommendations of appointment of judges to superior judiciary shall be formulated through a commission, which shall comprise of the following:
i) The chairman shall be a chief justice, who has never previously taken oath under the PCO.
ii) The members of the commission shall be the chief justices of the provincial high courts who have not taken oath under the PCO, failing which the senior most judge of that high court who has not taken oath shall be the member.
Mr. Hussain said that charter of democracy was signed in 2006 when Nov, 3 3007 had no arrived. At that time all judges including Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry were the PCO judges. Now Nawaz Sharif likes a rattling parrot insisting that he will restore Justice (Rtd) Iftikhar M. Chaudhry and other deposed judges where as on May, 14, 2006 he had agreed with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto that with the constitutional amendment they will remove all judges (including Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry) who took oath under PCO. Mr. Altaf Hussain said that Nawaz Sharif by making this demand is violating his own signed charter which he and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto agreed. In other words he is causing pain to the soul of Benazir Bhutto. Mr. Altaf Hussain urged Mr. Asif Zardari that he should tear off this charter publicly and burn it, and in case it has to be implemented then Nawaz Sharif should beg pardon from the nation and also from the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for causing pain to her soul.
He further said that Nawaz Sharif arranged oath taking ceremony through Saeed-uz-Zama Siddiqui from lawyers and from the party candidate that they will restore the deposed judges including Justice (Rtd) Iftikhar M. Chaudhry. This way they have themselves broken the said charter.
Mr. Hussain said that hardly any time passed after the burial of Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif has violated the charter of democracy by demanding the restoration of Justice (Rtd) Iftikhar Chaudhry. He said that either PPP and Nawaz Sharif should not talk about charter of democracy or if they want to talk then it should be implemented. He said that as far as the freedom of judiciary is concerned then according to the charter they should get the removal of those judges who took oath under PCO and bring the old judges who did not take oath under the PCO or according to the charter of democracy appoint those Judges who have never taken oath under the PCO.
MQM will support them.
Mr. Altaf Hussain said that Nawaz Sharif says that he has performed many Umrah and also prayed to Al mighty by holding “ Ghilaf-e-Kaba” now he has himself broken his promise made in the charter of democracy. Now how he will face Kaba.
Mr. Hussain said that Pakistan is passing through critical stage and under the circumstances every one from his mature act and character should adopt a positive role, but unfortunately certain elements still rattling that except MQM every thing is acceptable. While addressing PML-N leader Mr. Nawaz Sharif, Mr. Hussain said that when have we asked you to accept us? He further said that Nawaz Sharif in his recent statement has said that he has reservation on MQM’s character. Mr. Hussain said that first he must see that what is his own character. Nawaz Sharif could not stay in jail even few months and with lots of begging to the rulers of Saudi Arabia went out of the country. Nawaz Sharif swear to nation that he had not made any agreement with government but in 2007 he himself disclosed that he made the agreement for 5 years and not for 10 years.
Mr. Hussain said MQM is the only party of the country which has not only maintained the graph of his popularity but it has increased its vote bank and parliamentary seats, only in Sindh MQM has bagged 25, 00,000 votes, where as the other political party’s seats have been reduced. He said that PPP has obtained the majority seats and according to democratic norms it is her right to form the government and they should. MQM will unconditionally support the newly formed government on her every positive step and more so where ever the need be MQM will practically support it. Mr. Hussain said that whether in future MQM sits on opposition benches but for the cause of Sindh and elimination urban rural divide, unity and progress MQM will provide unconditional support. He said that conspirators had been creating differences between urban and rural divide and made them fight. Now time has come that all forces of Sindh join hand for the development, prosperity, and elimination of unemployment, economic progress and obtaining the rights of Sindh i.e. provincial autonomy, NFC award in which the legitimate share of Sindh is ensured. For the progress of Sindh the MQM’s character and actions will be positive and we will not create any unnecessary hurdle for the government. Mr. Hussain said that Sindh is the land of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai (RA), Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (RA), Suchal Surmast (RA) and other Soofies. We want peace and progress in Sindh so it receives foreign investments for the prosperity. He said that if prosperity comes in Sindh so Pakistan will prosper, because Sindh pays 70 % revenue in the national exchequer; But Sindh is ignored and is not given its legitimate share. Now time has come that Sindh be given its due share. He further said that we do not want to act in a way so that the vested elements gets a pretext of confrontation instead our every step will be for the love, oneness, peace and prosperity of Sindh and Pakistan. He said that in Sindh PPP is in majority and in future they will form the government so we hope from them that they will cooperate for the progressive works being done by the City government and will not create any hurdle. Mr. Hussain said that on June 19, 1992 an army operation was launched against the MQM which we faced with courage and the people of Hyderabad specially the mothers and sisters are prepared for any hard eventuality in future and again they will face it with courage and bravery.
He asked the women present in the address that we are accepting the mandate of all political parties and if they do not accept the mandate of the MQM then should we go in for government or sit in opposition? All women with one voice said “in opposition” Mr. Hussain said that we have never begged for government, Pacca Qilla ground still holding the graves of thousand martyrs and we never bargained on the blood of our martyrs. What ever discussion will be hold it will be with honour, respect and grace. He further said that the message of MQM is fastly travelling amongst the sindhi speaking people and in great number the Sindhi speaking youth is joining MQM. He said Inshaallah when time will come not only Urdu speaking Sindhi but also the Sindhi speaking Sindhi will join together for the cause and rights of Sindh. He appealed to the masses in Sindh to unite for the rights, peace and progress and think for the prosperity of Sindh so that the problems of masses are solved, unemployment is eliminated; whole Sindh gets schools, colleges, hospitals and dispensaries. Sindh should have parks, play grounds and various industrial estates. For this the unity amongst the masses is foremost. He said that for the progress and prosperity of Sindh we have to bury the mistakes of past and our every step should be positive. By this way Sindh and Pakistan will progress. Altaf Hussain also appealed to Sindhi and Urdu speaking intellectuals, journalists and the youth that they should be aware of the conspiracies under which the vested interest forces create difference amongst the permanent residents of Sindh so that they fight with each other. He appealed them to unite and foil their nefarious design.
Mr. Hussain also thanked and congratulated Haq Parast Punjabis, Pakhtoons, Kashmiries, Saraikies, Hazarey wal, Kuchhi, Memom and other communities and religious minorities for their participation in election and gave a befitting victory for the Haq Parast candidates. He thanked them individual and also praised them.
Mr. Altaf Hussain also praised from the core of his heart to the people of Hyderabad specially the mothers, sisters and daughters for the historic success of the Haq Parast candidates. He said that the women performed greater role than men in these Elections. The results of 2008 have once again proved that Hyderabad is the City of Altaf Hussain.
