Mohtarma Faiza Gabol, the wife of Founder and Leader
of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain, has stated
that we will prove that knowledge is power and not the army, the
Punjabi Establishment or the guns. She was addressing the
office bearers and workers of All Pakistan Mohajir Students
Organisation (APMSO), at the Khursheed Begum Memorial Hall in
Karachi and MQM Zonal Office in Hyderabad from London over the
telephone on 3 February 2001.
Mohtarma Faiza Gabol said that students are backbone of the nation, the community and the Movement. Students are stronger than the soldiers and their weapons because they have a greater power that is their wisdom, knowledge and their intelligence. She said that the combination of these elements remove every obstacles of your path. Addressing the office bearers and workers of APMSO, she said that she has been blessed with millions of brothers and sisters in their form. She said, "when a girl gets married, she leaves behind her house, her family, her brothers and her sisters, however, I don't feel that way because I see you all as my brothers and sisters." She emphasised that you are my brothers and sisters and being your "Bhabhi" (i.e. sister-in-law), she has a greater obligation and responsibility towards them.
Mohtarma Faiza Gabol assured that being a part of the Movement, she is prepared to offer sacrifice against any hindrance and impeding factor that might occur in the path of the Movement. "Every obstacle in your way is in fact, an obstacle for me and when I say that you are my brothers and sisters, I promise you that I would never hesitate to offer sacrifices and would always stand as a shield in front, in order to face all your problems so that you can be saved", she assured.
She said, "being a student myself, I understand your frustrations and what you go through in your life. You thrive to attain a position, obtain good marks, achieve the rank, you have to attain your goals and set plans for your future. However, more important then this is to understand what life is offering us. Life is about giving and not taking, you have to offer sacrifices and love." She emphasised that our future is not Pajeros or castles -- our future is our Movement and our cause -- our future is to work and sacrifice ourselves for our cause and not for any gains.
Addressing the students Mohtarma Gabol said, "I am sure that you will not let me down because I am going to be your shield, the protector of your and my Quaid, the Movement and the Tehrik. I am sure that you will stand determined on Quaid's ideology, beliefs and philosophy with full conviction." She assured, "whatever situation arises, we will stand united as a whole and that I will always stand before you."
Advising the students on knowledge Mohtarma Gabol said, "to gain knowledge and wisdom, one has to study in depth, grasp the real meaning and the message behind the text, find out solutions to the problems because every problem has a solution. The more deeply you study the problem, the more you will find the solution. Every problem comes with an answer and to find the solution to that problem depends on how you face it."
In the end Mohtarma Gabol said that teaching is her profession and she has always taught her students the famous saying, "knowledge is power". She said that we would prove that knowledge is power and not the army, the Punjabi Establishment or the guns. She reiterated that we are the power, our knowledge is our power and together we shall defeat every situation and shall surmount every obstacle that may come in our path.
