Muttahida to challenge amendments in NAB Ord

                                    By our correspondent

KARACHI: The deputy-convenor of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement,
Aftab Sheikh has strongly condemned the recent amendments in National
Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance and termed them illegal and in
              violation of basic human rights.

Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at the Karachi Press Club
on Tuesday, he said that the amendments in the NAB Ordinance were
contrary to the recent decisions of the apex courts and the Constitution
              of the country.

He said that the Muttahida and the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA)
would challenge these amendments in the court of law and that the
co-ordination committee of the Muttahida would soon decide about it at
              its meeting.

He said that the government had already decided to convict Dr Farooq
Sattar even though investigations had yet to be started against him. He
said that Dr Farooq Sattar had been treated as if he was a habitual
criminal and was kept in a small barrack, which was 8 x 6 in size. He said
that prisoners who were awarded death penalty were kept in such
              barracks.

He demanded that this inhuman treatment meted out to Dr Sattar, who
had already fallen sick, must immediately be stopped. He said that the
Muttahida would not accept any illegal and unconstitutional attempt to
convict Dr Farooq Sattar in false cases.
