Karachi – 26 February 2000
The MQM Co-ordination Committee
has appealed to the people of Sindh to observe the peaceful strike call of 28 February
2000, to protest against the oppressive and tyrant acts of the present Military
Government. The Co-ordination Committee
has appealed to the traders, businessmen and shop owners to keep their
businesses and shops closed on 28 February 2000, to register their strong
protest and condemnation over the highhandedness of the present Military
Government.
MQM Co-ordination Committee said
that the manner in which Dr Farooq Sattar, Member of MQM Co-ordination
Committee, Parliamentary Leader of the MQM in the suspended Sindh Assembly and
Former Mayor of Karachi, has been shifted to Attock Fort in North West Frontier
Province of Pakistan, is highly deplorable.
The present Military Government in total disregard to the judiciary have
unconstitutionally and illegally shifted Dr Farooq Sattar to Attock from
Karachi, where he is being in kept in a dungeon (measuring seven square feet)
under the constant vigilance of Army.
The Co-ordination Committee further said that a so-called court has been
established to try Dr Farooq Sattar inside the Attock Fort. The Co-ordination Committee while strongly
condemning and deploring this act of the present Government has termed this as
totally disregard to the Constitution of country and the violation of the right
to defend of Dr Farooq Sattar.
Moreover, the Co-ordination
Committee also condemned the act of forcible expulsion of thousands of Mohajir
and Sindhi employees from Pakistan Steel Mills and other government and semi
government organisations. As a result,
the families of those effected by forceful and unwarranted expulsion have been
left destitute. Those who were
forcefully and illegally expelled were not even given a show cause notice and
were dismissed without any reason which tantamount to worst form of discrimination
and bigotry.
The MQM Co-ordination Committee
has appealed to all the citizens of the province of Sindh, southern Pakistan,
to keep their shops and businesses closed to observe the peaceful protest
strike against the illegal, unconstitutional, anti-Sindh and other
discriminatory acts of the present Military Government on 28 February
2000. They also appealed to the
citizens of Sindh to show through the peaceful strike that the people of Sindh
are united and will not remain silent over any discriminatory or tyrannical act
of the present Military Government against their province.
