London -- 20 December 2001
The MQM founder and leader Mr. Altaf Hussain while addressing a
gathering of MQM UK Unit, young, elders, ladies and children in
North London, informed the authorities that we are all for the
solidarity and prosperity of Pakistan, despite atrocities
committed upon us. He said that in view of the present
situation in South Asia region and the problems faced by
Pakistan, treatment to people of smaller provinces deserve
reassessment. The time is ripe for their sense of
deprivation to be removed and them being treated equally. But
unfortunately the establishment is not prepared to change their
stance. He said that prolonged atrocities and
discriminatory polices give roots to extremism. Despite
state brutalities and injustices, we are for the solidarity of
Pakistan, he stated. It is now in the national interest of
Pakistan that people of smaller provinces are given their due
share in the national wealth and resources, all the injustices
should end and they are given equal rights. According to
the United Nations Charter, all ethnic linguistic minorities have
a right to demand self determination if the state does not
provide them justice and equal rights.
Mr. Altaf Hussain pointed out that Sindh province
had been discriminated since the inception of Pakistan. Fundamental
rights of the people of Sindh have been usurped; it has been
forced into subjugation of Punjabi establishment. He
pointed out that the MQM will not allow the prevailing situation
to continue. We wish to live with honour and dignity
without infringing anyone elses rights nor do we want our
rights to be trampled over. Time is ripe for the people of
Sindh to attain their rightful place.
Mr. Altaf Hussain remembered the sacrifices made by thousands of
MQM fellows workers and vowed that we shall not allow their
sacrifices go in vain. Their sacrifices shall take us to
our destination where we shall really celebrate the Eid.
