SITUATION REACHING POINT OF NO RETURN IS NEVER IN THE INTERESTS OF
THE COUNTRY AND NATION – ALTAF HUSSAIN

NAWAB AKBAR KHAN BUGTI WAS A BRAVE MAN, HE CHOSE TO
EMBRACE DEATH THAN TO BOW HIS HEAD DOWN – ALTAF HUSSAIN

London- 27 August 2006

Mr Altaf Hussain, founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) condemning the assassination of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti demanded of the government to desist using the power of the state and redress the grievances of the smaller provinces by taking serious notice of its issues. He said this while addressing the Members of the Central Co-ordination Committee of the MQM in Karachi and London. Mr Altaf Hussain paying tribute to Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti said that he was fearless and a brave man who preferred to embrace death than bowing his head down. He further said that the MQM has been repeatedly demanding of the Government over Balochistan issue to settle this issue politically through sincere dialogue instead of using the state power.

Mr Altaf Hussain said that the process of oppressing the voice and demands of the people through the use of state power never serves the interests of the country and nation, it complicates the matter further, promotes hatred and distance the people forcing the situation to reach the point of no return and hence, shuts the door for dialogues. He re-iterated that this was his view in the past and remains today while forcing the situation to the point of “No Return” never serves the interests of the country and nation. He again demanded of the Government to desist from using the state power and seriously analyze the issues of the smaller provinces and total provincial autonomy be given along with genuine rights and powers to genuine representatives of the provinces to govern their provinces to promote harmony, national integration and cultural pluralism in the country.

Concluding his statement, Mr Hussain offered his condolences to the families of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti; his associates assassinated with him, the leaders, workers of the Jamhori Watan Party and the Baloch people while further added that he equally shared their pains and sorrows.
