Sindhi speaking
Sindhis have equal right over the MQM -- Altaf Hussain
Sindhi Speaking Sindhis should come forward to run the MQM
London 8 April 2001
The founder leader of MQM Mr. Altaf Hussain had a five hour-long meeting with MQM deputy convenor Aftab Ahmed Sheikh in London. Convenor Dr. Imran Farooq was also present in this marathon session. In this meeting the MQM founder and leader Mr. Altaf Hussain discussed particularly the affairs of Sindh and exchanged views with those present. Mr.Altaf Hussain expressed his views in detail and observed in very expressed terms that the people of Sindh should get united to achieve their long-standing success for the struggle of their rights. He further observed that in this struggle both sections of the population i.e. the Urdu speaking and Sindhi speaking Sindhis both have to take part on the basis of equality. He declared the formation of a committee known as Sindh Organising Committee for this purpose.
He made a categorical appeal to Sindhi speaking workers, writers, poets, journalists, students and all the literate section of Sindhi speaking population that the province of Sindh is surrounded by the problems and the long history of persistent denial of legitimate rights. He further said that we have already wasted lots of time and it is now the opportune moment that the Sindhi-speaking brethren should come forward to run the MQM and contact Sindh Organising Committee (S.O.C).
In this regard they can contact the Deputy Convenor Aftab Sheikh or Mr. Abdul Khaliq Baloch of the S.O.C so that a proper committee (S.O.C) be constituted through consensus. This committee would have equal representation of Urdu speaking Sindhis and Sindhi speaking Sindhis. Mr. Altaf Hussain further said that MQM is not confined only to protect and promote the interests and rights of the Urdu speaking population but the Sindhi speaking Sindhis have equal claim and right over MQM. He appealed to literate Sindhis to come forward and induct themselves in the MQM, so that a joint campaign and struggle be made to attain the rights of Sindh.
All the Sindhi speaking Sindhis writers, poets, lawyers, journalists and students should come forward for joining S.O.C. Contact can be made on phone number 6311077 in Karachi where Mr. Abdul Khaliq Baloch will explain further details.
Concluding his views, Mr.Altaf Hussain also appealed to Baloch and other linguistic groups of Sindh to come forward and join S.O.C.
