INTERNATIONAL AND ACADEMIC RECOGNITION OF MR ALTAF HUSSAIN'S PHILOSOPHICAL WORK BY PROF GREGORY JAMES OF HONG KONG UNIVERSITY
London -- 30 April 2001
Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Information Cell is pleased to announce the international and academic recognition of MQM Founder and Leader Mr Altaf Hussain's philosophical works with the publication of a research work called" Many a Slip..." a dictionary of philosophical vocabulary for discussion of arguments, prepared by Professor Gregory James of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The Language Section of Hong Kong University has published this reference book recently. Prof Gregory James has compiled this reference dictionary "a dictionary of shaky grounds and missed connections" and has included sayings of scholars, philosophers, writers, poets, historians, heads of state etc. The sayings of these thinkers have been used as example to define the philosophical connotation and the true sense of the vocabulary.
Prof Gregory James while mentioning "egotism" in his dictionary has quoted the text of Mr Altaf Hussain's philosophical lecture of 1 May 2000, which he delivered at Nine Zero, the MQM Head Office in Karachi, Pakistan, over the telephone from London.
Prof Gregory James defined "egotism" as the tendency to talk too much about oneself, in the belief of one's own relative superiority or importance compared to others. Such conceit or boastfulness is often manifested by an unduly prominent overuse of the first person ('I'). Quoting Mr Altaf Hussain's text as example the dictionary then explains, "...the seed of egotism makes a person consider himself most important, only praises himself and these actions show that he only cares and loves himself. ... Usually, human beings like self praise, therefore, when a person is praised repeatedly that he is very intelligent, smart and wise etc., actually you are planting the seed of egotism in his mind which rapidly grows. (Altaf Hussain, 2000)"
Amongst other great names whose quotation have been cited in this dictionary include: Abraham Lincoln, Barger W. Kenneth, Budziszewski J., Sarah Curtis, Dumouchlle Paul, Elizabeth Nissim, Mark Ross, Alfred White, Kelley Ross, Aristotle, Machiaville Nicollo-de-C, etc.
Prof Gregory James has also included the name of Mr Altaf Hussain and the Muttahida Quami Movement in the section of acknowledgement and bibliography along with these great names.
