Courts must act to stop extra-judicial killings: PBC
By Our Staff Reporter
LAHORE, April 12: Time has come for the superior judiciary to
take notice of extra-judicial killings in the Punjab and Sindh as
their incidence has crossed all limits and is still on the rise,
Pakistan Bar Council vice-chairman Rana Ijaz Ahmad Khan said in
Lahore on Monday.
Briefing newsmen on the resolutions adopted by the PBC at its
meeting in the Punjab capital on Sunday, he said the so-called
law enforcement agencies have now started killing people for mere
resemblance with proclaimed offenders. The PBC endorsed the
Lahore High Court Bar Association resolution calling on the LHC
chief justice to take suo motu notice of custodial and
'encounter' deaths.
