Constitutional petition put off
KARACHI, April 9: The hearing of a constitutional petition filed
by MPA Babar Khan Ghori of Muttahida Qaumi Movement was on Friday
adjourned till April 20 as the Deputy Attorney-General (DAG),
Barrister Naeem-ur-Rahman, sought more time for filing comments.
When the case came up for hearing before a bench of the Sindh
High Court, consisting of Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui and
Justice Ghulam Rabbani, the DAG sought adjournment. This was the
third adjournment in the case on the same ground.
MPA Babar Khan Ghori has challenged his name on Exit Control List
and prayed to the court to declare the action by the federal
government ultra vires and also to allow compensation of 0.1
million rupees for depriving him of his legitimate right to
travel freely in and outside the country.
Meanwhile, another bench of the SHC, comprising Justice (Dr)
Ghous Mohammed, adjourned the hearing in a habeas corpus petition
challenging illegal detention of 10-year-old Kamaluddin as a
reply of show-cause notice was submitted by the SHO Jamshed
Quarter police station.
Mohammed Azam Baloch, filing his reply, stated that on April 1
when he was directed to appear before the bench in connection
with the petition but he was busy in the investigation of
kidnapping and murder case of Asif Bhoja.
He stated that he deputed sub-inspector Shaukat Tanoli to appear
before the court but the SI failed to do so. It was further
submitted by the SHO that he had brought the negligence on the
part of SI Tanoli to the knowledge of superior police officials
and had recommended strong action, including his transfer to the
Police Lines East.
Mehtabuddin, petitioner, moved the court against illegal
detention of his 10-year-old son, Kamaluddin, by his in-law,
Alauddin, and his sons as a "peer" accused Kamaluddin
of stealing four gold bangles of her aunt, wife of Alauddin.-APP
